Wet Kiss is a Band; Brenna O is a Soap Opera
In 2019, Brenna placed a classified ad in a few rock magazines. It read “I want to start a band. My influences are Bessie Smith, Brette Smiley and Shirlley Bassey.” A dog named daniel responded to the ad.
Daniel would later say, “She called me back about two weeks later and talked my ear off until three in the morning…I met her and thought, this is not going to work. She didn’t know how to play, and she had a really crazy lifestyle. I didn’t think she would get her shit together.”
Brenna and daniel found a bassist named Ben Sendy and a drummer, Ruby Rabbit. And a pianist named Aldo brought a theatrical flare. Brenna O was finally in a band of her very own. They called themselves “Wet Kiss.”
Brenna called up a man named Jack M who had a small L.A. record label, Dero Arcade Industry. He liked what he heard when he saw Wet Kiss play and gave the band $500 to record their first single which they called Sister Duress.
Dero Arcade later signed the band and they released their debut album, “She’s So Cool” in 2020. To give the album a raw edge, Brenna would chug dirty martini before laying down the vocals. “She’s So Cool” was an album full of screaming and hissing about everything from drunken opulence to misguided ambition. The album was a perfect display of O’s sultry and emotional life so far.
When people in their scene heard the record, they found it ironic because Brenna always said she preferred 1920’s torch music next to glam punk.
